Restoring a Heritage Icon: A Timeless Blend of History and Renewal

The Kin Kin Hotel (also known as the Country Life Hotel) was built a decade after the construction of a road across the ranges to support the timber industry. It exemplifies the classic style of traditional weatherboard pubs, featuring wide colonial verandahs and a corrugated iron roof.

Established in 1914, the hotel has endured its share of challenges, including significant damage from a tornado in 1971 and flooding in 2009.

Designed by Cooroy architect William Fenwick, the hotel was described at its opening as an “ornamental addition to the existing town buildings.” Over the years, it has built a rich and colourful history. In the 1960s, it gained notoriety when Sean Connery and Diane Cilento stayed there, leading to Room 3 being affectionately dubbed “The James Bond Suite.” The Kin Kin hotel also appeared in the film Silent Reach, starring Robert Vaughn, Helen Morse, and Graham Kennedy. Additionally, local legend suggests the hotel was won and lost in multiple poker games during the 1920s.

"Mick and the whole crew at Build 4 U are fantastic to deal with. Very professional with all aspects of building. Highly recommended. A cut above the rest."
